He pointed out that humans have hunting seasons to kill other mammals such as deer, so why shouldn’t there be a hunting season to hunt and kill humans? Rolling said that most serial killers should have only been convicted for hunting humans out of season. For example, these same people probably ate pig flesh, and pigs are a very close relative to human beings sharing some similar genes with human beings. Rolling pointed out that the people shocked by serial killers, probably sat around their dinner table every night eating animal flesh from a mammal that was killed for them to eat. And, that this was no different from the pride and pattern of a serial killer killing humans month after month, year after year. He said that big game hunters were also serial killers, because they killed one animal after another - month after month, year after year - and that these hunters were proud of their serial killing of other mammals. Rolling wrote that humans “harvest” mammals such as deer and eat them, so serial killers are simply “harvesting” humans, who are also mammals. He empathized that humans are nothing more than a higher order of animal, just a little smarter than other mammals. But, if a human becomes obsessed with killing humans, who are also mammals, the world reacts with shock and dismay. He wrote that many humans are obsessed with killing deer, catching fish, etc., which is accepted by society. Rolling said it was human nature to kill other living things and that humans throughout history have killed mammals and eaten their meat. ![]() He wrote that the greatest hypocrisy of our society was when a soldier killed other human beings who were declared by our government as needing to be killed and, the more humans killed by a soldier, the more that soldier was called a hero, given medals, and perhaps even given a parade.īut, Rolling said that when a private citizen starts killing humans who need to be killed, the government declares them a serial killer and a monster for doing the same thing that the government honors a soldier for doing (killing people who need to be killed). While Rolling refused to write specifically about himself, because he was waiting for a court decision regarding the appeal of his death sentence, he did however, agree to give me his opinion about serial killers in general. There are many Internet resources about Danny Rolling, such as the “True Life Crimes,” at, and “Murderpedia” at. He attempted to take his picture with some of the dead bodies, and he left several of the bodies in sexually provocative positions. His murder of the five female college students in Gainesville included cutting their throats, cutting off body parts, slicing and carving up their bodies, removing skin, cutting off at least one head and putting that head on a bookshelf, rape while he killed them, and having sex with at least one dead body. Rolling was 52 years old when executed by lethal injection in Florida on Oct. Years later, he voluntarily provided a written confession that he had also killed three more people in Louisiana. 8, 1990, for a botched armed robbery unrelated to his murders, and while serving his prison sentence for the robbery, he was convicted for the murders of five female college students in Gainesville, Florida. During 1998, I received permission from the Florida Department of Corrections and the Florida Attorney General to correspond with Danny Rolling, known as the “Gainesville Ripper,” a convicted serial killer, who was awaiting execution on Florida’s death row.
